Hawaii's Merry Monarch
I took this photo of a photo hanging at the Tedeschi Winery in Ulupalakua. King David Kalakaua was the last King of Hawaii and also known as the Merry Monarch because of his passion for entertainment, parties, poker, food, and champagne. You can read more about him here.

Sounds like an all round fun guy! Do Hawaiians ever wish they could have a "fun king" again?
Looks like an elegant King. The glint in his eye shows his fun-loving side.
I guess I lost out on the history of Hawaii. I never knew this fellow existed and what happened to the kindship of Hawaii. Something upset the former king's kingdom? When I was first there in 1953 it was not a state yet.
Baby raccoons. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Great portrait, I really like it, with the shades of trees and all, but he didn't look like he had much sense of his royal duties!!!
