October Theme--Tombstones and Graveyards

October's Monthly Theme is Tombstones/Cemeteries, and for this theme, I've chosen not one but TWO photos to illustrate this theme. I wanted to add the first photo because these signs aren't often seen at graveyards/cemeteries, and the sign speaks loud and clear about how respectful the Hawaiians are to their Ancestors!

Please visit all these other worldwide cities to view how they photographed this theme.

I like the shot of the sign; it's horrible when you see a cemetery vandalized.

I've had picnics in cemeteries here and in France. I guess I'd better not put that on my Hawaiian agenda??

What the symbol before the word we invite you. What it means we come to visit as a family ?

One of the most moving gravesites I have visited was in Hana--Lindberg's grave. Isolated, or so it seemed at the time.

je trouve tres surprenante cette enseigne, encore plus que des gens puissent venir vandaliser les cimetieres ;o((

I find surprising very this sign, even more than people can come vandaliser the cemeteries :o((

Interesting sign with an intriguing drawing on the top. Any information on what the drawing represents?

Forgive my ignorance - does "kupuna"" mean "ancestors"?
What a great sentiment...

Kupuna....a new word of the day. I am surprised to see this sign. I'd feel awkward if I were to stand or sit on a grave.
